How the site developed
Arborfield Film Studioos was once part of an Army garrison, which was initially operated by the Army Remount Service and supplied the military with horses for both operational and ceremonial purposes. It was established as the Remount Depot in 1904 and operated throughout the First World War and most of the inter-war period before closing in 1937.
The School of Electronic Engineering, which was responsible for the training of aircraft and avionic technicians, moved to Arborfield in 1995. The SAA became the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering in April 2004 and was renamed the School of Army Aeronautical Engineering in 2013. The school moved to Lynham in 2015 and the facilties became vacant.
The transformation to a film studios began in 2017 when Bob Terry (Longcross Film Studios) saw an opportunity to develop the site and use the facilities to support the rapidly growing film and TV industry. Disney was keen to book space and went on to film Aladdin which was the first major release to be filmed at Arborfield.
